See the performance of each rower in real time

Connecting to the Avio PowerSense for Rowing sensors (required) RowSense shows the power output of each rower.  Live and real-time, simple bar charts allow easy comparison between any of the the rowers as well as live display of the total output of the entire boat.

Your training - Improved.

Sessions can be recorded for analysis later and statistics for sessions can be collected and viewed such as session length, average power for the entire boat for the session, average power for each rower and maximum power for both each rower and the boat as a whole.

How it works

AVIO Rowsense enables live tracking of the power generated by each stroke communicated to the Trainer’s device via Bluetooth Smart technology.

AVIO RowSense

Introducing AVIO RowSense – an App to enhance your rowing session with real time data about the rower’s performance.

This quick guide will explain the basic functionality of the AVIO RowSense App to help you to familiarise yourself with it’s interface and data collected during the rowing session. It is possible for more than once App instance to receive the data from the AVIO PowerSense sensors in proximity so that multiple spectators can display and record each individual session.

Over next few posts we will talk about each screen and the data therein.

Please note: In order for AVIO PowerSense meters to connect to your device and allow the data collection – the Bluetooth has to be enabled. If it isn’t, a popup will be presented reminding user that the Bluetooth connection is required for the AVIO RowSense Application to function correctly.

AVIO RowSense – Navigation

Most of the Navigation within the RowSense App happens via the side menu which contains contextual links to all App facilities of interest. The menu can be opened by sliding a finger from the left edge of the screen and closed by sliding to it.

Rower management facility does not contain a side menu, because the gesture recognition is used to allow users to drag and drop Power Sense enabled Oars and the Rower labels onto the relevant Boat positions / Seats – instead a back button is provided to allow user to navigate back into the combined view facility.

AVIO RowSense – Getting Started

In Order to start displaying the data broadcasted by the AVIO PowerSense sensors, the user needs to authorise each enabled Oar and allocate it to the selected Seat/Boat position. This is done in the Oar Management facility, accessible via side menu item “Select Oars”.

All detected sensors will display in form of tiles, showing last characters of the wireless address of each sensor, and if provided; an Oar Nickname. Users can drag and drop Oars into the consecutively numbered boat position placeholders, located in the bottom half of the screen. There is a maximum of 8 boat positions/seats that can be allocated but only 4 are displayed at given moment in time. To show the remaining boat locations drag the placeholder area from left to right and vice versa.

Another feature of this facility, is the ability to create Rower records and allocate rowers to each boat location/Assigned Oar – records created this way will display these labels in other facilities, to allow users to easily recognise each Rower instead of relying on the position numbers.

To create a new rower record click on the “Add Rower” button located at the bottom of the Oar Management facility.

Successful assignment of the sensor to a selected Boat position will result in Sensor tile background change. Once assigned drag and drop the rower’s name onto the relevant boat position.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for downloading this early version of AVIO RowSense App – if you have any suggestions or questions about the product please do not hesitate to contact AVIO team via:

AVIO RowSense – Combined View

Combined View facility provides a real time overview on the performance of all connected, authorised Oars. The top bar displays a current combined power figure, calculated from the summary of all reported power values at any given time.

Once a second the value will be added to the line chart below presenting historical performance and allowing the Coach and Cox to see the increase or the decrease of the power during each stroke. At this time, the values will also be updated for each column of the data table beneath the total power chart.

Once the user navigates out of this facility – the chart will be cleared.

Data table located below the line chart, shows the breakdown of power (Current, Average and Maximum) generated by each individual rower during current stroke. The header labels display the rower’s name as allocated in the Oar Management facility during the previous step.

Swiping the device screen from the left edge of the screen towards the right, will open a side menu allowing user to navigate to other App facilities.

In order to start recording current rowing session, open the side menu and navigate to “Show Performance” facility.

AVIO RowSense – Performance View

Performance View facility is made up of three sections. The top view presents the rower’s performance bar chart, showing power generated by each rower’s in the current stroke. Combined, summarised power value is displayed in the header bar right above.

Once the sensors are authorised, a bar showing the average power use will be populated within the respective column of the chart area. The height of the bar is determined by the power reported from the rower’s Oar in relation to the average power figure. To see the actual, raw power value please refer to the data table located below the bar chart.

Clicking on each of the Bars in the Bar Chart area will open an individual view screen – where Users can view real time line chart of selected Oar sensor.

As per combined view, the header row title’s on the data table, placed under each respective bar of the bar chart will display the Rowers name allocated to each boat position/ Seat.

Session control buttons are located below the data table, allowing users to start and stop the recording of incoming data. The duration of the recording is displayed in form of a timer, which will remain active even when the user navigates out from the Performance View to any other App screen.

Each session is saved automatically when the user stops the timer and will become available for viewing in the Sessions facility thereafter.

Swiping away from the left edge of the screen will open the navigation side menu allowing user to change currently displayed screen.
